Prom Makeup Inspiration

25/1/2018

Deciding what makeup style to have for prom can be tricky! You may want to go all out and glittery or keep it simple and fresh. I don't think it is always necessary to match your eyeshadow with your dress, it's nice to switch it up a bit! Go with colours that suit your skin tone and eye colour more than what colour your dress is.

Here are a few different looks you can get inspiration from:

The 'natural' prom  queen

If you're not use to wearing much makeup and feel as though you won't be comfortable with lots on then this style is perfect for you. A soft eyeshadow colour paired with a nude lip and maybe some false eyelashes will make you natural Prom Queen perfect!

The 'Glam ' prom queen

If you love a soft smokey eye and a winged liner then these sort of looks are perfect for you! A gold or bronze colour on the lid with some wispy lashes and pinky nude lip will be stunning for any glam Prom Queen!

The 'bold' prom queen

If you are the type of girl that loves your makeup and just wants to go all out for prom then you are the ultimate 'bold' prom queen! Go for a glitter cut crease with a red lip if you want to be daring.

Smokey Eye Bride

Day 4 is the smokey eye bride. If you are used to wearing heavy makeup every day or at the weekends then you may not want to have natural makeup on your wedding day as you won't feel like yourself. This all matte brown smokey eye would suit any eye colour. I only used black in the waterline as I didn't want it to be too dark on the eyes. To find out what products I used scroll below.

Day 3 is my bold lip bride! I created a soft gold shimmery eye with a bright pink lip for this look. If you are going for a bold lip you want this to be the main focus and not have any eye makeup that is too heavy and will over power it. Scroll down to read about the products that I used.

My top 10 products I always use on brides

12/1/2018

1. Nars Sheer Glow Foundation
This is one of my favourite foundations to use on brides because it suits everyone skin type! Whether you are oily or dry this foundation sits on your skin perfectly. It is a glowing, natural radiant finish foundation which has buildable coverage. It comes in many different shades so perfect for all skin tones.
Picture
2. Pro Longwear Concealer
I love using this concealer underneath the eyes as gives amazing coverage to hide any dark circles. The concealer makes your under eye look very smooth and it lasts all day! I would suggest using a good setting powder to keep it in place.
Picture
3. Urban Decay Setting Spray
I personally think that Urban Decay do some of the best setting sprays out there. They may be more pricey but they are worth it for your wedding day! A quick spritz of this after you have finished your makeup and it will hold all day and night. It is a must have for brides
Picture
4. RCMA Translucent Powder
Powders are very necessary for any bride whether you have dry or oily skin. The RCMA powder is great as it has no colour to it so won't give you the dreaded flashback. I use a damp sponge to apply the powder. I press it on to the skin with a sponge as it helps keep your foundation locked in.
Picture
5. Make up For Ever Hydrating Primer
Always use a primer on your wedding day as you want your base makeup to last all day. The Make Up For Ever hydrating primer is great for all skin types and gives you a smooth base before applying your foundation. Primers protect your skin from your foundation so you don't have to worry about any break outs.
Picture
6. Inglot Gel Eyeliner 77
The Inglot Gel Eyeliner in shade black 77 is the best out there! It is the blackest eyeliner you will ever see and once it is on the eye it doesn't budge. It is waterproof so you don't have to worry about it smudging across your eyes if you get a little teary on the day. I would suggest using an angled liner brush to apply it.
Picture
7. Waterproof mascara
I don't have one particular waterproof mascara that I use religiously but I would highly recommend using one! The last thing you want is your mascara smudging underneath your eyes so make sure you test out your mascara before the wedding day.
Picture
8. Individual lashes
Individual lashes are amazing for brides because they look natural, you can't feel them and they last all day. You can get semi permanent lashes put on before your wedding but I have had some clients not react well to the glue they use. With individual lashes you may have to get someone to help you on the day as they aren't the easiest to put on yourself. The Ardell Individual Lashes are one of my favourite to use with the Duo glue.
Picture
9. Anastasia Beverly Hills brow powder
Brows are so important as they frame your face. By using a brow powder it will give you a soft brow effect rather than anything too harsh or bold. Anastasia Beverly Hills do many different shades so you'll find the perfect tone for your eyebrow.
Picture
.10. MAC Hug Me Lipstick
Although lipstick is a personal choice I use MAC's Hug Me Lipstick on a lot of my brides as it is the perfect nude pink shade. It looks gorgeous on all skin tones and can be used with any nude lip liner.

Bridal Makeup Myths

10/1/2018

Here are my top 5 bridal makeup myths debunked. I wanted to share these with you as there is so many misconceptions. There are no rules on how you should apply makeup as long as you feel confident and beautiful then that is all that matters!

1. Use a foundation that is one shade lighter
I don't understand where this idea came from but when working on a makeup counter I heard it a lot! Make sure your foundation is the exact same shade as the rest of your body and always take it down the neck to blend in.

2. You can only use waterproof products on your wedding day
It isn't necessary to only use waterproof products on your wedding day. Yes it is best to wear a waterproof mascara but don't go trying to find a waterproof foundation, blusher etc because it's not easy to find and it just isn't necessary! Try using a setting spray instead which will lock in your base makeup and keep it safe from any tears!

3. You can only wear natural makeup
I don't agree with this because if you are the type of girl that always wears a heavy smokey eye then why would you want to go for something really natural on your wedding day?! You won't feel and look like yourself. Wear a makeup style you are comfortable with on the day whether that's a glitter cut crease or a bold lip!

4. I don't suit lipstick
Lots of brides say this to me and whilst I don't believe it's true I think for some people it is harder to find that perfect lipstick shade. If you think lipstick looks strange on you then go for a sheer coloured gloss on the day or try find a lipstick colour a shade darker than your natural lip colour.

5. Your makeup should match your outfit colour
Just because you're wearing a grey dress doesn't mean you should go for a grey smokey eye. Go for colours that suit your skin tone or eye colour rather than what colour your outfit is. If your bridesmaids are wearing a red dress then yes it may be nice to put on a red lip but it is not imperative.

Do's and Don'ts for your Bridal Makeup

9/1/2018

Whether you are doing your makeup yourself or getting a professional to do it for you, there are always a few things you should be aware of when it comes to bridal makeup. I have put a few tips together that I have learnt over the years to make sure your bridal makeup comes out as amazing as you hoped!

Do's

1. Always have a trial! Having a trial is so important because what you think may suit you could infact be the total opposite. It is useful to try the makeup out for the whole day and see if it feels either too heavy or light for you. You need to test the longevity of the makeup as it is not good if your winged eyeliner has smudged a couple hours into the day!
2. If you are going to have a spray tan for your wedding then have a spray tan trial. It is best to be as close to the skin tone you will be on the day of the wedding for the trial so you can see what the makeup will look like accurately. Your makeup look changes so much depending whether your pale or tanned so please bare this in mind.
3. Use individual lashes on your wedding day as these last a lot longer than strip lashes and look a lot more natural!
4. Get your brows waxed or threaded a 3-5 days before your wedding.
5. Treat yourself to a couple of facials before your wedding day! This will help the makeup go on a lot smoother on the day.

Don'ts

1. If you are the type of girl that never wears any makeup then don't wear heavy makeup on your wedding day. You will not feel yourself or comfortable and as it is such a special day you want to feel the best version of you.
2. Do not pick a make up artist just because they give you the best quote. Price is usually a reflection of service; when looking for a makeup artist compare people's skill level to their price to find the best artist for you. If you are getting a very cheap quote from a make up artist then 9 times out of 10 it is because they're inexperienced, not insured and use poor quality products
3. If you are doing your makeup yourself never try a new product out on the day. It may not work with your skin and you don't need that stress on the day. Use your most trusted products.
4. Don't base your bridal makeup on a trend as you want your makeup to be timeless. You don't want to look back on your wedding photos and think 'wow I went overboard with that contouring and highlighting'!
5. Don't rush your makeup on the day. Allow yourself 1 hour for makeup so you can take it slow and enjoy it.

Kimberley Makeup Artist X Stacey Marie MUA Masterclass

8/1/2018

On Sunday the 7th of January I went to the Kimberley Makeup Artist X Stacey Marie MUA Masterclass in Manchester! These are two of my favourite make up artists in the  UK and when I heard they were collaborating together I knew I had to get a ticket to go watch. They each did 2 looks on 2 different models and created looks that were their signature makeup style.
Stacey went first creating a ombre winged eyeliner. She made it look so effortless and easy but I can tell you now it is so hard to perfect something like this! She is a true artist.
Picture
Next Kimberley did the other side of the models face creating a spotlight smokey eye. She did it with burgundy and pink tones which looked stunning! You may not think this is a very wearable look but if you do it with browns and neutral tones then you could definitely get away with it on a night out!
Picture
We had a short lunch break then was back to watch them do their next makeup look. Stacey created a colourful winged out smokey eye inspired by Alcantrara Makeup. This look was so beautiful and seemed hard to create as the blending has to be on point.
Picture
Kim's last look was the most simple look out of the four but still absolutely stunning! She made the skin look so flawless and the models eye pop by doing such a effortless soft brown smokey eye. She made it look so easy to do but to get it looking as flawless as she did shows how much skill and talent she has.
Picture
I had so much fun at the masterclass and learnt so much which just proves you can never stop learning when you're a makeup artist not matter how many years you've been in the industry. I'd highly recommend going to one of their 1-2-1 class or masterclass's. Here are a few more photos of the artists at work:
